Athlete of the Week: Vote for This Week's Top Football Star
Help decide which St. Charles County football player had the best game over the weekend.
St. Charles County schools, for the most part, fared well this week on the gridiron thanks, in short, to some stellar plays made by tremendous athletes.
This week in our St. Charles County Athlete of the Week, we ask you to vote for your favorite high school football playe. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player has had the best game over the weekend?
Here are the nominees:
Nick Glenn, Fort Zumwalt East: Glenned proved to be the difference-maker in Zumwalt East's 21-7 win over Cape Girardeau Central. Glenn chipped in with a sack, a tackle and an assist. But it was his 34-yard fumble recovery, which he took all the way to the endzone, that wound up being perhaps the biggest play in the game. The score was the go-ahead touchdown that proved to be too much for Cape Girardeau to overcome.
Zach Hilliard, Fort Zumwalt North: Hillard provided book-end scoring plays in North's 21-14 win over district-rival Fort Zumwalt South. The quarterback was 6-for-15 from the pocket, good enough for 75 yards and two touchdowns. The first touchdown pass came early in the game on a 34-yard bomb. The second, with just 27 seconds remaining in the game, was a 17-yard toss that would secure the victory.
Drew Lauer, St. Charles West: Hillard's two touchdowns—a 1-yard rush to open scoring and another 35-yard punt return in the second quarter—helped fuel West to a 42-7 thrashing of Winfield. Lauer also added 34 rushing yards on five carries.
Travis Arndt, Timberland High School: Arndt's foot stole the show in Timberland's 27-16 loss to Fort Zumwalt West. The kicker nailed field goals from 45- 44- and 40- yards out. He also added a safety, an interception and 10 tackles.
