Five Things to Do This Weekend

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.

1. POLAR BEAR PLUNGE 

Where/When: Saturday starting at 1 p.m at the Lake Saint Louis Community Association at 100 Cognac Court, Lake Saint Louis. 

Why Go: The annual Polar Plunge raises money for Special Olympics. You can get a team together to take the plunge yourself, or watch as others take a dive into the chilly water for a good cause. Our very own O'Fallon Police Department and other city officials are signed up to participate on Saturday. 

Pricing: $75 per plunger. Buy tickets online

2. BACKYARD BIRD FESTIVAL 

Where/When: Visit the Missouri Botanical Garden on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.,  for their sixth annual Backyard Bird Festival for guided bird walks, live exhibits, classes and identification tips for bird watchers of all ages.

Why Go: After being cooped up inside after a long week of snow days, this event will get you and the kids out of the house for a fun family event. 

Pricing: Starts at $3 for members and $5; registration is required online or by telephone (314) 577-9506.

3. ENJOY LIVE MUSIC WITH YOUR DRINK

Where/When: Every first Saturday of the month the Rough Ryders play at Brewseez in O'Fallon starting at 9 p.m. 

Why Go: Live music, food and drinks close to home. 

Pricing: The music is free and appetizers start at $5.99. 

4. CHAMPIONSHIP BULL RIDING

Where/When: St. Charles Family Arena on Saturday, Feb. 5 starting at 7 p.m. 

Why Go: It will give you a chance to get out of the house and trade your snow boots in for some cowboy boots. 

Pricing: Family four packs start at $30.

5. TAI CHI YO FLOW CLASS

Where/When:  SSM St. Joseph Health Center, 300 1st Capitol Dr, St. Charles every friday from 6:30-7 p.m. 

Why Go: You can improve flexibility, range of motion, and mental concentration through a series of exercises. 

Pricing: Free for cancer survivors. $12 per single session or $30 per three-week session.
