Get out and get involved to increase happiness for this week's "Great Escape."

According to a recent research study, joining a new club every year where you have to show up once a month in person increases your happiness more than by doubling your income.

For this weeks “Great Escape” I’d like to showcase a few of the clubs in O’Fallon that can get you out of the house once a month and make you happier at the same time!

Not sure where to look for a club or even what kind of group to join? First of all, decide if you are looking for a more social club or a productive group.  There are wonderful “Mom’s groups” that are more social based and just require you to show up for a meeting.  Depending on what stage of mothering you are in, you might not have a lot of spare time to complete a task for a meeting once a month.

For example, if finding time to read is a struggle, then a book club probably isn’t for you.  However, if you love to bowl and have an hour or two a month that you can spare, then joining a bowling league might be a good fit.

Not sure how to find clubs in O’Fallon?  One of the best resources for finding various groups to join is the library.  Visit the St. Charles City-County Library District for more information.  There you can find information on book clubs, knitting groups and even scrapbooking and card-making groups

Another great resource is the Renaud Spirit  Center.  Check out the latest schedule for wine tastings, cooking classes and even dance instruction.  If you are looking for a more social group, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a great group for that.  MOPS is for all mothers, with children ages birth to six years.  With 10 groups in O’Fallon alone, you are sure to find one near you.  Looking to give back to the community?  O’Fallon has many volunteer opportunities available, too.

So, start working on improving your happiness, and having a Great Escape at the same time!

My name is Nicole Jaggi and I'm the VP of Membership for MOM (Moms of O'Fallon, MO) and we're always looking for more members.

Here's a little information about our club. It's called Moms of O'Fallon, MO or MOM. There are currently about 40 members. Most of our members are stay-at-home moms. Our dues are $20 a year and that money goes towards craft supplies, parties, donations, etc. We usually have about 2 or 3 activities a week - crafts, lunch and plays, day trips, story times, recipe exchanges, etc. We usually have one Moms Night Out a month and a Couples Night Out a few times a year. Our newsletter is sent to our members through email and we use Evites to RSVP to the events so the host knows how many moms/kids will be at an event.

Thanks so much for sharing the info Nicole. I knew the MOMS Club was still around, but couldn't find any current info about it.
