LadyBug Snow Cones Sets Up Shop in O'Fallon

The shop will open on 315 East Elm St. on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

If you attended the opening of Brendan's Playground last October, or you've been out to an O'Fallon Jammin' concert at Civic Park--you may already be familiar with LadyBug Snow Cones.

The mobile shop has participated in local events, selling snow cones from a golf cart on hot days, for more than 25 years.

Rick Dotson, co-owner of LadyBug Snow Cones, said he and his wife Ruth will officially open a permanent location in O'Fallon, at 315 East Elm St. on Tuesday, Aug 7.

The mobile shop will still be available for birthday parties, fundraisers, church events and more, but the shop will be a place for everyone to come in, sit down and enjoy a snow cones.

Dotson said after being involved with Brendan's Playground, the first all-inclusive playground in O'Fallon, it is important to him that his shop be welcoming for people of all abilities with "no kid left behind."

"We want it to be totally accessible," he said, adding the shop has a low counter, so employees can reach down to serve and interact with the kids.

Dotson said he eventually hopes to turn the parking lot out back into a courtyard, where customers can enjoy their treats under umbrellas.

The long list of original flavors at LadyBug Snow Cones include everything from the usual grape, cherry and banana to the less traditional, kiwi, orange dream and tangerine.

LadyBug Snow Cones also makes specialty treats named after O'Fallon's local high school teams.

Fort Zumwalt High Schools

  • Panthers: Green apple and pineapple
  • Bulldogs: Strawberry and rock and roll
  • Jaguars: Grape and Coconut
  • Lions: Pineapple and rock and roll

St. Dominic High School

  • Crusaders: Blue bubble gum and coconut

Christian High School

  • Eagles: Blue raspberry and lime

LadyBug Snow Cones is partnering with the St. Charles based Frenchtown Deli and Catering Company to bring sandwiches to the shop in the fall.

Dotson said all catering will be done at the deli, which is located at 1312 North Second St. in St. Charles.

LadyBug Snow Cones also offers fresh Fruit baskets during the holidays.

The shop opens on Tuesday, Aug. 7. Hours are 1-10 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
