Man Accused of Punching, Choking, Pulling Girlfriend by Hair
O'Fallon Police said the O'Fallon man called his girlfriend afterwards and threatened to kill her.

An O’Fallon man was charged Sunday with beating, choking and dragging his girlfriend by her hair across a driveway.
Anthony Robinson, 27, of the 400 block of Carol Renee Court in O’Fallon, was charged with second-degree domestic assault and resisting arrest.
O’Fallon Police responded to a call from a woman Sunday, who told officers she was arguing with her boyfriend, Robinson, who punched her in the forehead, knocking her down. She told police he continued to punch her in the head and upper body, and she fought back to protect herself.
A police report said the woman ran outside and got in her car to leave, but Robinson pulled her out and began choking her. She told police she thought she would pass out when he threw her onto the driveway and began pulling her by the hair across the concrete.
A witness pulled Robinson away from her, and she was able to leave on foot. Two witnesses gave police statements consistent with the victims’ account, O’Fallon Police reported.
Robinson fled the area, and called the woman on her cell phone, and said he would kill her once he was out of jail, according to the report. A K-9 unit found Robinson, and he was arrested after a short chase on foot.
Robinson was charged with second-degree domestic assault and resisting arrest. Bond was set at $20,000, cash only.

The O'Fallon Patch continues to give the details of the problem residents of our city. Is this done because this is what readers are looking for and because it is easier news to gather? I know that the other Patch publications do the same thing so it must be a Patch policy, like other media, to feature the bad segments of our city, country, state and country. I hope that this changes.

I look on the home page and I see 1 negative story surrounded by 3 positive ones. Yes, crime stories are distasteful, but burying your head in the sand and pretending evil isn't among us is counterproductive. When you turn a blind eye, you encourage the very sort of behavior you abhor. My two cents.

Hey Rich, I am certain that there are many positive O'Fallon stories out there with volunteers who make a difference, teachers who go the extra step with their students, police who show care and concern, senior citizens who make life special for young children, business owners who go out of their way to hire veterans, residents who help their neighbors who are struggling with yard care problems, coaches who go the extra mile to teach values not just sports, and on and on. The problem is that it is more difficult to find these stories than it is to go to the police blotter and pull the information.

Jim & Rich - Not to be argumentative, but after I wrote my earlier comment, I went and took a look at the O'Fallon site. There alongside the article we're commenting on is an article on a Vacation Bible School raising $2,000 for Joplin, and another on an O'Fallon resident who is a finalist in a caption contest. So, yes, there are good stories out there. And they're on O'Fallon Patch.

Who wants to bet this guy hasn't hit her at least once prior to this?
There are plenty of good guys out there, and you all deserve one whether your previous (or current) boyfriend let's you think that or not.
Ditch the tool and get out there & find you one.

Good guys are hard to come by these days they are all about looks not whats inside that is why girls end up with the jerks because they know they will be able to do what they want !

I don't do this to make O'Fallon look bad. Domestic violence goes on in every city and town everywhere. There's no where to go to escape crime completely, although O'Fallon has an extremely low crime rate. One of the reasons I feel this is a public service is that if you Google a guy's name (never a bad idea to do if you're interested in a person), and something like this comes up, I think it would stop most women (not all) from considering going out with or associating with him. I also feel it calls attention to exactly the issues Kevin and Manda bring up -- women continue to stay with these guys. But don't kid yourself. It takes a great deal of courage and strength to leave those situations, because that is a very dangerous time for those women.

Jim & Rich - you should try looking at it from this perspective. 1. Like Joe posted...domestic violence is a problem, one that people like to keep secret. Joe's reporting reminded us that is still exists and we should be working toward eliminating it. 2. Witnesses helped the woman escape and corroborated her story to police so that the criminal would be held accountable instead of turning a blind eye and keeping quiet. 3. Everyone who reads this article will know what sort of a dirt bag this guy is and hopefully steer clear. With any luck he'll move on out of O'Fallon now that he knows the neighbors are paying attention.
