O'Fallon Offers Alternative Spring Break Activities
Residents are invited to get in touch with nature and help prepare their local parks for spring.
O'Fallon residents of all ages are invited to grab their gardening gloves and help prepare city parks for spring over the next two weeks.
For the second year in a row, Volunteer Services is hosting their Alternative Spring Break.
Volunteer Services Coordinator Alexis Jaegers said nearly 20 volunteers are signed up to help plant Liriope to assist with erosion in Dames Park from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday March 16.
Jaegers said it's not too late to sign up for the spring break activities and anyone interested in helping is encouraged to pre-register by contacting 636-379-5507 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
If more volunteers sign up, more activities will be scheduled throughout the next two weeks, including mulching trees and beds, planting, weeding, and general park cleanup. Additional projects involve painting, spreading wood fibers on playgrounds, power-washing pavilions and equipment maintenance.
"It's a great way to take time off to give back," Jaegers said. "It's been cold, damp and miserable outside for the past few months, so it's also a great way to get outdoors and engage with other individuals who have the same common goal."
Next week, volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in a similar project at O'Fallon's Sports Park and prepare hanging flower baskets for the city green house.
