Organic, Local and Delivered From O'Fallon, Right to Your Door
Green BEAN Delivery asks, "Why should we not enjoy local food when it is quite simply the best food available?"
Green BEAN Delivery, a online service offering locally-grown produce and other food products, is now distributing out of O'Fallon.
The company's goal, according to its website, "is to make local foods more accessible and convenient."
The majority of products offered are organic, and local produce is offered in-season. Other locally produced products include eggs, dairy, meats, breads and "other unique artisan foods."
The membership-based service requires customers to set up an account and order a minimum $35 "bin" that can be delivered weekly or biweekly. Customers can choose to add more grocery items to their bins, with a cutoff time for the next delivery.
There is no extra charge for delivery, which comes in an insulated plastic bin with ice packs. All the packaging, including egg cartons, are reusable and Green BEAN picks up the empty packaging at the next delivery.
Customers can also choose to have reminders and invoices sent by email, making the service even more environmentally friendly.
An example of a standing order is this "small produce bin," available to the St. Louis-area March 7-13, which contains:
- 1 sweet yellow onion
- 1 bunch of carrots
- 5 Mandarin or Murcott oranges
- 3 Cara Cara oranges
- 1.5 lb. bag of Ruby Crescent fingerling potatoes
- 4 Fuji apples
- 1 Pint of grape tomatoes
- 1 Bibb lettuce
- 1 pound of Crimson Globe grapes
- 8 oz. baby spinach
Other standing orders include the Fruit Bin, The Fruit, Vegetable and Grocery Bin, and Large and Medium Fruit and Vegetable Bins.
The company's website features a blog page called Healthy Times, which posts recipes using the items in the week's order. Local producers—such as Buttonwood Farms from California, MO, and the Good Earth Egg Company from Bonne Terre—are profiled on the blog.
