Drew Stilwell, of O'Fallon, said he came out to opening night of the fair to play some games and have some fun before showing his chickens on Thursday.

Jonah Libbert, 10, of New Melle, sprays his pig to cool him down before his showing on Tuesday afternoon. Libbert is a member of Callaway 4-H Club and has entered the swine judging for four years now. "I like to do the hard work, like feeding the pigs everyday and remembering to water them every 3-4 hours," he said.

Kendall Gilkey, 17, of Orchard Farm, prepares to show her 232 pound pig. Gilkey has been a member of Point Prairie 4-H Club for nine years and has raised pigs for five years. She said to prepare for showing she walks her pigs and trains them "not to be so skittish."

Jasen Pearson, of St. Charles, brought his kids Reide, Bradyn and Owyn out to the fair for the first time on Tuesday. The family stopped to feed the goats at S&S Farms Petting Zoo before heading to the carnival rides.

While the opening parade was cancelled due to the heat, the fair still kicked off with an opening ceremony beginning with (second from left) Ashley Hugeback, of Wentzville, singing the National Anthem.

Wentzville Mayor Paul Lambi welcomed the crowd to the opening day of the St. Charles County Fair on Tuesday. "I'd like to thank everyone for coming out for a celebration of family and agriculture," he said.

Despite the heat on Tuesday night, a large crowd gathered for the opening of the St. Charles County Fair at Rotary Park in Wentzville.

Some fair goers enjoyed rides and cotton candy, while others prepared for the the night's shows, including the swine judging and Fair Queen Coronation.
