St Charles County Paramedics Rescue Dogs From O'Fallon Fire

After an O'Fallon family managed to escape their home that caught fire on Monday night, local paramedics rescued two of their pets that were left behind. 

According to a news release from the St. Charles County Ambulance District, a home in the 700 block of Red Hawk Drive in O'Fallon went up in flames at 8:30 p.m. on Monday night. 

O'Fallon and Wentzville firefighters extinguished the fire, which started in the
basement of the home. 

Martin Limpert a spokesman for the ambulance district, said
that fortunately, all three residents were able to escape unharmed
and take one of their dogs with them. But two dogs and a cat were left behind due to smoke in the home. 

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters brought all three animals to paramedics Donna Lorson and Kevin Griffith, who performed CPR, massage and oxygen therapy on each pet.

According to Limpert, paramedics successfully revived both dogs using the donated pet oxygen mask kits each ambulance carries.

O’Fallon Police officers transported Molly, a Poodle type mix and Sophie, a Chihuahua to the Animal Emergency Clinic in O’Fallon.

Limpert said Molly’s condition is stable and appears to be doing
well, while Sophie is still battling some neurological issues due to
being oxygen deprived.
