MoDOT Breaks Ground on Final Phase of Page Avenue Extension

MoDOT officials said the project should be wrapped up in 18 months.

Officials from MoDOT, state and local legistators and the mayors of St. Charles, O'Fallon, Weldon Spring, Cottleville, Dardenne Prairie and Lake Saint Louis lifted symbolic shovels of dirt Wednesday morning to commemorate the beginning of Phase 3 of the Page Avenue Extension. Ed Hassinger, a district engineer with MoDOT, told the gathered crowd that the project should be complete in 18 months. He spoke about the tremendous cooperation between all levels of government that the project required. St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann said that the project, which follows the path of the old Boonslick Trail, started with a corridor preservation study 20 years ago. O'Fallon Restaurant Inspections: Schools, Clubs and Other Food Service Establishments

Check out the most recent food inspection reports from St. Charles County Health Department from February and March 2013.

St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment regularly inspects food service establishments throughout St. Charles County, except for within limits of St. Peters. The establishments begin with a score of 100 and points are deducted based on the severity of problems observed. According to the department's website, a low score does not mean the restaurant was unsafe on the day of the inspection. "A place could have just one deficiency that garners a relatively 'high' score out of 100, but that the problem is so critical, it forces immediate action – while another may have two or three non-critical deficiencies that would give that provider a lower total score," said Doug Bolnick, health department director. Civic Hall Demolition Underway

City staff is working with an engineering firm to decide the best location in Civic Park to build a new facility and take a look at the possibility of expanding or enclosing portions of Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center.

Crews began tearing down O'Fallon's old Civic Hall building Thursday.  The O'Fallon City Council decided last April that the condemned building should be replaced and not renovated. O’Fallon Director of Parks and Recreation Cindy Springer said city staff is working with an engineering firm to decide the best location in Civic Park to build a new facility and take a look at the possibility of expanding or enclosing portions of Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center. The city hopes to have a final design by June, along with cost estimates. No date is yet identified for construction to begin. A citizen survey of the new projects—including the justice center and O'Day Park—is planned for May or June. Results of the survey may affect ballot options …

Thanks for the comments. We'll see what we can do—posting an entire inspection is a bit trickier, because we have to request them individually from the health department. Perhaps if we looked at the 5 lowest scores across the county a little more in depth? What do you think?   more ›

O'Fallon Bread Company Could Soon Add Drive-Thru

The O'Fallon City Council will hear the first reading of a bill that would grant a conditional use permit (CUP) for the construction.

If you've been to the O'Fallon Bread Company at 1300 Highway K around lunchtime, you've probably seen the long lines and crowded parking lot.  To eliminate some of the parking issues, property owners have submitted a request for a conditional use permit (CUP) to add a drive-thru to the restaurant. The O'Fallon Planning and Zoning Commission approved a recommendation for the CUP to the O'Fallon City Council, which will give first reading to the bill at Thursday evening's meeting.  According to the Planning and Zoning Commission report, city staff has received complaints from residents and businesses regarding the lack of parking within O'Fallon Pointe Centre. The report states that if approved, twelve spaces will be removed for the proposed…

Miss Lanham, thanks for not reporting all of the facts and testimony at the Public Hearing for the Project before the City Council. You mention not one item that I testified at the public Hearing. Where are your Journalistic Ethics in fairness and reporting both sides of an issue? It is not fair to the public and not fair to the community. Shame on the Patch!   more ›

New Ordinance Would Define 36-Hour Limit for Trash Cans Left at Curb

After the Public Works Commission asked for that the time limit for trash cans left on the street be reduced from 36 to 24 hours, city staff instead decided to define "36 hours" more specifically.

A new ordinance under consideration by the O'Fallon City Council tonight will attempt to redefine the conditions under which garbage containers are considered a nuisance—specifically, how long they can be left in the street. The current ordinance defines as a nuisance: Garbage cans which are not securely covered, which are leaking, which are unsanitary or which do not prevent the entry of flies, insects and rodents and garbage cans which have been left or stored along public roads, sidewalks and rights-of-way in the City of O'Fallon for more than thirty-six (36) hours. City staff were concerned that enforcement would be difficult when the city has no way to know when the cans were placed on the street. Instead, they suggested that the 36-…
