"We are in need of monetary donations for shipping, and we need more dedicated bakers who are interested in joining our baking group," she said. The group's next event is planned for 6:30 p.m., Mon., Feb. 25 at Fort Zumwalt South High School (commons area), where volunteers will be packing cookies for shipping.

Bakers who are interested in joining the group can send an email to: aswlcookiesfromtheheart@yahoo.com.

Powers would like anyone who may have a loved one or a friend serving in Afghanistan to know that soldiers can fill out a request for cookies on the ASWL website.

Not a baker, but still want to help out? Donations towards shipping can be made through the ASWL website (mention Cookies from the Heart in the comment section) or mailed to ASWL, 11143 Larimore Rd., St. Louis, MO 63138.

"If they mention Cookies from the Heart in the memo line on their checks, this will ensure that our baking group gets the donations for shipping," Powers said.
