O'Fallon Honors Military Heroes at Memorial Day Ceremony

A large crowd of O'Fallon residents gathered at the Veterans Memorial Walk on Monday to pay tribute to those who serve our country.

A large crowd began their Memorial Day by gathering at O'Fallon's Veterans Memorial Walk to pay tribute to our service men and woman who are currently serving and those who lost their lives serving our country.

The ceremony began with American Legion Post 388 presenting the colors, Mayor Bill Hennessy welcoming the crowd and Fort Zumwalt South sophomore Sam Horstmeier reading a special essay he wrote about the importance of honoring military heroes.

Keynote speaker Missouri National Guard Lt. Col. Alan Rohlfing asked the crowd to pause and celebrate the lives of those who perished defending our freedoms and be thankful that they lived.

"The died for a cause more important than their own lives," he said.

Rohlfing also reminded the crowd not only to honor the dead, but keep the missing, wounded homeless and unemployed military members in their thoughts and prayers on Memorial Day.
