Renaud Spirit Center Offers a Free, Fun-Filled Day

The center will host a Family Fun Fair this Saturday to allow the O'Fallon community a chance to experience all it has to offer.

This weekend, O'Fallon residents can bring the kids to the Family Fun Fair and check out what the center has to offer. On Saturday, the RSC will host a variety of activities geared toward the entire family. There is no charge for admission or parking and the event is open to all O’Fallon residents.

O’Fallon’s Director of Public Relations, Tom Drabelle said this Family Fun Fair is an annual activity that draws large numbers of people to the RSC. It is an opportunity for residents to see what the RSC is all about.

“The Fun Fair gives the community a chance to experience all we have to offer for free,” Drabelle said. “They can try out everything at the (Renaud) Spirit Center with no sales pressure and nobody following them around. We want people to come and see what a great value it (the RSC) is."

From 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., adults can try out any of the exercise facilities at the RSC, including the track, the cardio theater, the free weights and exercise machines. Throughout the day, instructors will give fitness demonstrations and host small sample classes so that residents can experience a class first hand, Drabelle said.

He said that while the fitness classes at RSC are open to RSC members, non-members can also sign up for classes a la carte if they are not interested in a full membership.

For the children, the tumbling and karate instructors will be on hand to demonstrate and explain what children can learn by enrolling in a class.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be children’s activities set up around the RSC grounds. Kids can enjoy carnival games, a petting zoo, pony rides, a rock climbing wall, face painting and a balloon artist. Ruffy the Rascal and Roscoe, O’Fallon’s Recycling Raccoon, will be on hand to meet and greet children of all ages.

The indoor aquatic complex will be open for free swimming from noon until 6:30 p.m. There is no age restriction for swimming, but the slide has a 48” minimum height requirement.

Bess Bacher, an employee of the RSC, said that there will be local vendor booths set up in the gym offering fitness products and services. Additionally, there will be raffles and drawings for prizes, including a one-year RSC membership and monthly passes to the RSC. Winners need not be present.

Ann Godier of the said officers will be on hand Saturday, distributing child identification handouts for parents to fill out and keep. The handouts help organize a child’s basic information and pictures should an emergency arise involving the child. The handouts keep all pertinent information in one convenient place for the parent.

Besides the O’Fallon Police Department, the will be at the Family Fun Fair with their fire equipment for the children to see up close.

The event will take place rain or shine. In the event of rain, Drabelle said that most activities will be moved indoors.

“It has rained on us before, but that has never ruined the day,” he said.
