O'Fallon Photo Club Unites Local Picture Lovers

The is in full swing at the . The exhibit features the best of the members’ recent work in both color and black and white images and will run until Feb. 17.

Admission to the exhibit is free, and the gallery is open during regular business hours at the indoor recreation complex.

  • Club membership is made up of both professional and amateur photographers.
  • Members meet at the Renaud Spirit Center on the second Wednesday of each month.
  • Meetings are open to anyone who is interested in exploring the group, and membership is open to all. All that’s required to join is a love for photography.
  • Every month, club members are given “assignments,” which are designed to encourage them to get out and practice their craft.
  • Past projects have included a calendar for the O’Fallon Historical Society and more than 90 3x5 photo banners to be displayed in O’Fallon’s parks for the city’s 175th anniversary celebration.
  • In 2008, the club collaborated on an assignment called Project 23, which depicted life in over a nine-day period. The “Project 23” title came from the time period in which it took place—the twenty-third week of 2008.
  • The club also hosts educational and instructional meetings on a variety of topics related to photography, including:
    • Studio lighting
    • Portrait photography
    • Marco photography
    • Nature photography
    • Various Photoshop workships
    • Guest speakers
  • Members have developed a “sharing library” of photography books and magazines, and various committees help the group stay organized on upcoming events, coordinating field trips and keeping members up-to-date.
  • The O’Fallon Photo Club’s open Facebook group is active, engaged and boasts a membership of 30. You can check out club members’ photo galleries at the O’Fallon Photo Club’s website.
  • Club organizer Pam Landolt said that during Wednesday’s meeting, the group will discuss its 2012 agenda.
