Top 10 Ways to Entertain Kids During Winter Break

If the kids are bored, check out these suggestions for ways to entertain in St. Charles, St. Louis and beyond.

You don't have to travel far to entertain kids on winter break. Consider these options for the upcoming week:

  1. Make something: Head to MyHandyworks on Main Street and create some art for your walls using your hands as inspiration.
  2. Burn off some energy by jumping. Skyzone in Chesterfield has open jump times for toddlers, kids and teens.
  3. Visit St. Charles County Heritage Museum. See our video tour of the Museum that features the history of our region.
  4. Take a hike. Bangert Island is located just south of Interstate 70. The 160-acre park, managed by St. Charles County Parks and Recreation, has two trails through this wooded island that lead you to a spot that overlooks the Missouri River. Bundle up and go for a peaceful, quiet walk in the woods.
  5. Explore the region with a road trip. Drive down to Branson and plan to hit up Big Surf Waterpark, an indoor waterpark with plenty of slides.
  6. Demolition Ball  This activity is best for restless older kids who are sick of being stuck inside. Demolition ball involves two teams of five driving around in bumper cars trying to throw a ball at a target with a polo stick. Participants have to be 12 years old and 5'4".
  7. Check out the indoor tennis courts. The Steel Shop Tennis Club has hitting lane rentals for $12 for 20 minutes.  Introduce your kids to a fun game.
  8. Old-fashioned bowling. It's amazing how many kids have only experienced bowling via the Wii video game. Make sure they've tried the real thing. Go to St. Charles Lanes or one of the other bowling lanes in the area.
  9. Visit the Library: Pick out a few books to read from Kathryn Linnemann library branch. Head there from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 for New Year's Eve Activities. See more here
  10. Check out Foundry Art Centre. The Foundry offers a number of classes for kids during the school year. See the full list here
