Veteran K-9 Officer for O'Fallon Cops Euthanized; Residents Mourn

The doggie detective named Bo worked for the department for nearly nine years.

O'Fallon police announced on their Facebook page today that they had to euthanize a veteran member of the department on Tuesday because of failing health: Former K-9 officer Bo, who had served for eight and a half years.

Followers of the fan page on Facebook expressed their regret, some with specific memories of the pooch, like this comment from Julie Camp: "Bo was a wonderful dog for our students during D.A.R.E. at NMS!! He will be missed!"

Here's the full text of the O'Fallon Police Department posting:

"The O'Fallon Police Department regrets to announce that former K-9 Bo was euthanized yesterday due to failing health. K-9 Bo served the residents of O'Fallon and St. Charles County for 8.5 years along with his partner Officer Andy Stowers until K-9 Bo’s retirement last year.

"The pair was instrumental in detecting numerous arson cases for almost a decade. K-9 Bo was the first and only Arson Detection Dog the OPD has had. Along with his investigative work, K-9 BO was a fan favorite at our schools and other Community Service Events showing off his investigative skills and meeting residents."

Post your condolences to the department in the comments section below.
