O'Fallon Residents React to Ozella's Pizzeria Closing

Readers shared their thoughts on O'Fallon Patch and Facebook.

Ozella's Pizzeria, located at 468 Highway P in O'Fallon, is now closed.

Ozella's opened an O'Fallon location in 2007. According to the website, the restaurant got its start in North County in the late 1950s and was known as "the place for the best pizza in town."

O'Fallon Patch readers voiced mixed reactions to the restaurant's closing on Tuesday.

From O'Fallon Patch:

Jim Frain: "It's always a tragedy when a business closes and even more difficult when it is a family business....We are sorry to lose Ozella's Pizzeria. I often wonder what our city could do and should di to help a business that is struggling and getting ready to go under. Hopefully our Economic Development Department will continue to work even harder with businesses and support their efforts to stay in business and to grow in success."

Curly: "Just from having dinner there, I can say that their prices put them outta business and honestly their food wasn't that great! Just sayin......... :("

j6point7: "Pizza was excellent. My son was in from Reno and that is what he wanted to eat from home that he couldn't get there. I would have liked to see them deliver."

From Facebook:

Steve Ridling: "What a shame they had great pizza and the real Mayfair salad dressing."

Julie Reynolds Lynch: "Wished we'd have known they were up there, would have given them a try!"

Angela McMenamy: "Great pizza, but the service is what kept us away. Never felt welcome..."

Ann Lacefield Ronquest: "I live about a mile from there and never ate there. I heard the pizza was okay but overpriced. I always hate to see a business close but I am excited to see what this Hobos has to offer!"

Rosemary Wehner: "We ate there once. The food wasn't that good, it was overpriced and the service was terrible. We didn't feel welcome either."

Jody Allen: "Well as I am sorry to hear about the store closing...there is a wonderful local O'Fallon born couple replaceing it with an awesome restaurant.. Hobo's something for everyone and their food is awesome. A great addition for O'Fallon."

*Editor's Note: City of O'Fallon officials confirmed Hobo's will open in the vacant Ozella's building. O'Fallon Patch will have more information as it is available.

The Pizza was good but I agree overpriced. The hours they were open I believe killed the business as well. Could of catered more to the football crowd who went to Dames park and were not open for lunch.

I enjoyed the pizza too Jenni, but it was pretty far from my house. I wish I had made it up there more often!

Sorry to hear they didn't make it, I'm sure the timing of the starting a new business/location, with the tanking of the economy didn't help either.....On the other side of the coin is I hear Hobo's, Bar & Grill from St. Peter's, is checking in to open a second new location there....They have great food & service, at very reasonable prices, and the big plus with this second location, for us, would be NO SMOKING, thanks to O Fallon, location etc.....

As a small business owner, I frequented Ozellas. The service was always good and the atmosphere very friendly and family oriented! I agree, advertising is one of the bigges expenses for a small business since it is priced for chain stores and large business. It's a shame they had to close. I have been in business for 10 years and so many of our guests still ask- "Did you just open?"
