O'Fallon Restaurant Inspections: Burkemper's, Bandana's, Golden Corral and More

Check out the most recent food inspection reports from St. Charles County Health Department from February and March 2013.

St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment regularly inspects food service establishments throughout St. Charles County, except for within limits of St. Peters.

The establishments begin with a score of 100 and points are deducted based on the severity of problems observed. According to the department's website, a low score does not mean the restaurant was unsafe on the day of the inspection.

"A place could have just one deficiency that garners a relatively 'high' score out of 100, but that the problem is so critical, it forces immediate action – while another may have two or three non-critical deficiencies that would give that provider a lower total score," said Doug Bolnick, health department director.

It would be to everyone's health interest to also post what the violations were for. I look at this list and anything below a 95 makes me nervous! But it could have been the inspector walked in on a day when they suddenly had a bad leak, etc and it was fixed within hours. Not fair to the business! But I have noticed a few on here that are consistently in the 80's scoring and am positive I will never eat there.

Can anyone tell me just what do the numbers mean? What is passing and what is not. I agree with Diana I use a self imposed 95 as a yea or nay factor. Am I being fair? Although the ones in the 80s are not very impressive and we did not eat at them before we started looking at the ratings published in the Patch. SO, I suspect the numbers do tell!! Hey, Patch, put a #s break down as a permanent part of your "Inspections" story header!!

Thanks for the comments. We'll see what we can do—posting an entire inspection is a bit trickier, because we have to request them individually from the health department. Perhaps if we looked at the 5 lowest scores across the county a little more in depth? What do you think?
