Trader Joe's or Whole Foods: Which Would You Rather See in O'Fallon?

Several O'Fallon Patch readers said they'd like to see one of the grocery stores come to town. We asked our Facebook fans which one they'd prefer.

Several  residents have expressed an interest in seeing a Trader Joe's closer to home, but they may have to wait awhile.

As O'Fallon Patch previously reported, the store has .

A customer relations employee said this is not an immediate plan, but they will not rule it out for the future.

O'Fallon Patch asked its Facebook friends on Friday: What would you rather see close to home? Trader Joe's or Whole Foods?

We received 40 comments and here are just a few. Check out more on our Facebook page.

Mary Guelker Wilson: "Either! We need one out here!"

Rachel Sarino: "Whole Foods will be my 1st choice but will take either one here! I would describe Whole Foods as the Dierbergs of Trader Joe's - a larger store with more options."

Katie Wann Wibbenmeyer: "I'd be thrilled for an arrival of either one, but a little more for a Whole Foods."

Brei Callaway: "I would be happy with either, but we NEED one!"

Cheryl Walker-Adams: "Trader Joe's is my fav."

Vicki Fuemmeler Nave: "I vote for Whole Foods."

Erin Fay Schatteman: "Either but prefer WF. The thing I love about WF is that there is not one product carried in the store that has artificial favors or colors in it. Here is a list of ingredients they don't allow in their products. I love not having to check the ingredients on everything there! They also offer the widest selection of organic produce."

Michelle Humphreys Thomason: "Whole Foods. Larger selection."

Carol Threadgill Graeser: "I would love either one Jordan. O'fallon needs more organic options in our area."

Carol Mason-Franklin: "Trader Joe's. It's the Aldi's of Whole Foods, and more reasonable."

What do you think? Trader Joe's or Whole Foods? Tell us in the comment section!

We really need to have a Whole Foods Market in the St. Charles area, as it is I am taking my grocery money to Chesterfield or Brentwood, to shop at those Whole Food Markets. It would save me the long trip from St. Peters. And if we are going to get one lets get the real thing, not the Aldis of Healthy food...

My vote is for Whole Foods.

Whole Foods Markets would be wonderful to have in our O'Fallon market....I know that many contacts have been made in the past with them with nothing but a nice "no thank you" has been the response....The New and Improved O'Fallon Economic Development Department is aggressively promoting our city....let's see what they can work out.

Trader Joe's by far!! Nice compliment to Dierbergs.

I'm greedy - I want both!

I say neither! Municipalities in St. Charles County have been trying to lure them here for years and they keep saying no.... I say forget them and try and get an east coast chain here called Wegmen's...look them up...amazing!

Trader Joe's Please

Wegman's!! Regardless....near 70 is more accessible for the whole county. I would rather drive to Chesterfield, Brentwood or Creve Coeur than try to get to O'Fallon near 40/64 from Saint Charles City.

Either one would be great, but Whole Foods would be my first pick!
Mr. Frain: I have both friends and contacts at "WholeFoods" and "Trader Joe's." I am making both inroads and laying a solid foundation to convince both companies to move to O' Fallon. In my quest for the City Council, Economic Development and working hand in hand with Mike, the Economic Development Director is my TOP priority!

My choice would be a Hy-Vee.... The best grocery store in the USA!!!!
Ina August 30, 2012 at 10:28 PM
We certainly have the growing population to support both stores! If all else, fails, try Hy-Vee!

Any relatively big health food store would be nice! I would like to add another option: Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage. They have several locations in different states, including one in Columbia. I've been to a couple of their locations in Colorado and they had a good selection and most products were reasonably priced.

Trader Joe's by far! Much more affordable and huge variety. A much better environment than "Whole Paycheck".

Trader Joe's would be so great!!!

Both! Ok... a little greedy perhaps... so either one. Its hard for me to choose between them because I love them both, but I do spend more time at TJs.

O'Fallon is definitely big enough, close enough to other municipalities, which makes us convenient and very desirable for businesses. Not only is there a consumer demand for both (or a nice alternative, even if less well known, option) but it makes good business sense. If WF, and TJ don't want to, or can't for whatever reason, let this be an opportunity for entrepreneurs!
