Holiday Survival Tips

Holidays are great for family time, special friends and cheer but can be challenging for healthy lifestyle plans.  Everywhere we are faced with calorie dense foods and it can be harder to get regular workouts in our schedules.  Here are a few tips to stay on track.  Get active.
Even 3 10 minute breaks can add up.  Park further away and get in additional steps when you are headed to the mall.  Jazzercise O'Fallon offers 30 minute Express Classes Monday thru Friday 3:45pm, a great option for when your schedule is tight.
Healthy Holiday Spreads
When hosting or bringing food to a gathering, fruit/veggie trays, low fat dips, hummus and fruit based desserts contain more fiber which can keep you fuller.  Drink plenty of water throughout the day, it'll keep you hydrated as well as flush toxins.

Eat smart when on the go
Make some healthy options ahead of time that will be easy to take with you.  Lettuce wraps with lean protein, hummus, salsa and veggies.  When preparing dinner, make enough for several nights and freeze the leftovers. Don't go too long without eating...having something even as small as a handful of nuts/fruit in between meals will keep your insulin levels stable and will help in over-eating the next meal.  Having something every 2 1/2-3 hours is a good rule to follow.
