On the hunt

Sweep, mop and buff the floors, take out the trash, clean the bathroom, trim and mow the grass … This list may sound like a chore list for some, but for Mark Bequette, this is just a small part of his job. A job he has had for 27 years!

Unfortunately, his job is coming to an end in August. The Archdiocese held classes at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne in Florissant, but they have moved those to a different location. “The building is not in use, and unfortunately Mark’s job is no longer needed,” Mary Ellen Hays, Mark’s former supervisor, said. “He is a hard-willing worker.”

Mark is eligible for Community Living’s Employment Services program through a contract with Vocational Rehabilitation. Pam Westhoff, Vocational Coordinator for CLI’s Employment Services, met with Mark in April 2011 when his family contacted her.

“You won’t find a more dependable, honest/trustworthy person, and he treats everyone with respect and hospitality,” Pam said. “Mark has a high level of efficiency and accuracy in his job performance.”

Mark lives in St. Peters and would like to find a full-time position with benefits in St. Charles County. “I would like to obtain employment in a landscaping/grounds keeping or custodial position to utilize my skills, gain experience and propel the mission of the company,” Mark’s objective on his resume reads.

His work experiences include trimming branches and bushes, following room schematics for event set up, changing light fixtures and preventative maintenance tasks, snow and ice removal from sidewalks and more. He knows how to use a ZTR mower, a gas and electric trimmer, a floor buffer and Microsoft Word.
