Census 2010: O'Fallon Sees 71.8 Percent Growth

Census numbers released on Thursday afternoon reveal a large population growth in O'Fallon over the past 10 years.  

The city grew by 33, 160 people from 2000 to 2010, according to US Census Data. O'Fallon moves up from 13th largest incorporated city to 7th place, with a 71. 8 percent growth that puts the city's population at 79,329. 

Missouri grew by 393, 716. St. Charles County is listed as the third largest county in the state, with 27 percent growth and a population 360,485.

Here's how the numbers break down for O’Fallon:

• Black  or African American: 3,164
• American Indian or Alaskan Native: 197
• Asian: 2,499
• Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander: 44
• Some other race: 658
• Two races: 1,452
• Hispanic or Latino: 2,159

“The growth that this city has experienced over the last decade is truly remarkable,” Mayor Bill Hennessy said in a release on Thursday. “O’Fallon has worked hard to build a community that provides a safe, secure and beautiful environment for families to live, work and play together. The tremendous growth of our City is further evidence that O’Fallon has truly become one of the country’s best places to live.” 

The picture is not as rosy for the state of Missouri overall. Although the state grew in population by seven percent, it was not enough to prevent the . The state will  in the US House of Representatives.
