The issued a press release this week with some suggestions.

1. Spend a few minutes watching brief videos showing how to safely take shelter from tornados in a school, house or mobile home. The new videos, which were released by Missouri’s Emergency Management Agency .

 2. Join a statewide tornado drill on Tuesday, March 13, at 1:30 p.m.

“With tornadoes injuring and killing so many people across midwestern and southern states just last week, it makes sense for families to watch the videos and practice taking shelter,” O’Fallon Police Chief Roy Joachimstaler said in the release. “I hope everyone who lives, works or attends school in O’Fallon will participate in the Missouri Statewide Tornado Drill. It will only take about 15 minutes, and it’s a great opportunity to ready people to protect themselves and their families.”

The annual drill is part of Missouri Severe Weather Awareness Week, which is March 12-16. During the drill, sirens will sound throughout the state and messages regarding the drill will be broadcast. Missourians are invited to visit the National Weather Service’s Severe Weather Awareness website, for detailed instructions that can help people prepare for and cope with severe weather, including flash floods.
