Families Step Into the Past at O’Fallon Founders Day

The fifth annual O'Fallon Founders Day in Fort Zumwalt Park offers good old-fashioned fun.

Families filled on Saturday morning, excited for milking cows, making quilts and soap carvings, and playing games from the 1800s at the fifth annual .

“This is my first time at Founder’s Day. It’s fun,” said Shanna Hunsaker, 13, of O’Fallon, as she attempted to mount some vintage wooden stilts.

The event featured demonstrations from beekeepers, rope makers, basket weavers, wool spinners, archaeologists and more.

“Every time we come home from Founders Day, my girls have something new we just have to do. I love it. I have a feeling it will be basket weaving this year,” said Kim Eplett, of O’Fallon.

Music was provided by the Curreykorn Family Bluegrass Band, and families enjoyed a magic show by Hagerman the Magician. Tours of the Heald Home were available, as well as a visit to the St. Charles County Model Railroad Club exhibit.
