We talked to O'Fallon librarians and residents to compile a list of good books for you to check out.

O'Fallon Patch has compiled a list of great books with some picks for adults and some for children, in honor of National Read Across America Day. We talked to local librarians and had a little help from our mom columnist to find out what books they just couldn't put down.

Adult Picks:

  • Looking for Salvation at Dairy Queen, by Susan Gregg Gilmore--Marcia Mceachron, an adult reference paraprofessional at  recommended this book. "They're great character studies with strong female characters," she said.
  • The Help, by Katheryn Stockett-- This popular book that's been on the best seller's list for over a year and Mceachron said it currently has a wait list at the library.
  • A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini--O'Fallon Patch mom columnist Trish Feldt is an avid reader who suggested this book. "I love this book because it give a different viewpoint on the war in Afghanistan.  Although fiction, it depicts the history of the war ending in present day.  The story is told from two different women, each with very different backgrounds but very similar outcomes.  It is haunting but beautiful at the same time," she said.
