O'Fallon Remembers September 11 With a Tribute to First Responders

A group of residents gathered on Tuesday morning at the First Responders 9/11 Memorial outside the O'Fallon Police Department at the O'Fallon Municipal Centre, 100 North Main St.

O'Fallon residents gathered on Tuesday morning for a ceremony to honor the people who perished and the brave first responders who risked their lives 11-years-ago in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.

The hosted “A Tribute to First Responders” at 8:30 a.m. in front of the First Responders 9-11 Memorial outside the O’Fallon Police Department at the O'Fallon Municipal Centre, 100 North Main St.

The First Responders 9-11 Memorial was created from steel salvaged from the destruction of New York City’s World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

The ceremony on Tuesday included remarks from Mayor Bill Hennessy, O'Fallon Police Chief Roy Joachimstaler and prayers from Sister Carol Boschert. 

When sirens sounded, the crowd paused for a moment of silence to reflect, before Greg Cissell, music director for played “Taps."

People in the crowd formed a line and silently placed red and white flowers at the memorial.
