O'Fallon Armed Forces Day Ceremony Honors Military Members

Local military men and women gathered with friends and family on Saturday to pay tribute to those who have served our country.

Armed Forces Day is dedicated to Americans serving in the five branches of military service, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. During O’Fallon’s annual ceremony on Saturday, residents paid tribute to women in past and present military service, as well.

Pat Vogel, of the O'Fallon Veteran Commission said the purpose of the ceremony is to honor both the living and deceased. The ceremony begins with presentation of the colors, followed by the National Anthem and prayer.

Vogel said during the ceremony each year the "eight angels" or women listed on the Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C. are honored by having their pictures placed on display along side photos of local  military heros during the dressing of the table and chair.
