O'Fallon Mayor's Youth Advisory Council Seeks New Members
Students interested in being part of MYAC must bring an application with them to the next meeting on Aug. 16 at City Hall.
Know a high school student interested in politics? The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council () may be the right place for them. MYAC is seeking applicants for the 2011-12 school year.
The council is composed of juniors and seniors from local public and private high schools, chosen by their school officials to learn more about local government.
The group meets the third Tuesday of each month to discuss what’s going on in the world around them.

“The council was created to act as the voice of the youth in the district's schools,” MYAC member and Fort Zumwalt West student Sam Korns told O’Fallon Patch. “The students who participate on the council learn more about what's happening not only in other schools, clubs and organized sports teams but also in O'Fallon.”
The members of MYAC work closely with Mayor Bill Hennessy and council members. They also have the opportunity to volunteer for the city. Korns said this year the group plans to raise money to sponsor a piece of equipment in in .

“Last year the members and I learned a lot, whether it was paper recycling and going paperless or concerning other committee organization for O’Fallon,” Korns said. “A student who is interested in politics would be highly interested in the council, or if you're like me and you just like knowing what's going on in your city.”
MYAC is looking for members to represent the and high schools, as well as any students from local or students who are home schooled.
Korns said with five seniors graduating last year, MYAC is currently made up of two members but they would like to have up to 10 students.
Students interested in becoming part of the MYAC should fill out an application and bring it with them to the next meeting on Aug. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at , where they will see firsthand how the group operates.
Each applicant will take the stand during the meeting while current members ask them questions based on their applications.
