Tips For Brides on Flower Girls & Ring Bearers

When incorporating children into your bridal party, make sure that they are at least 5 yrs old to ensure a beautiful wedding ceremony.

There are many weddings that are adult only weddings, but most weddings include children. Often many of the children that are invited to the weddings are actually in the wedding party.

Sometimes there is just one flower girl and one ring bearer and other times
there are multiple of each.

Just a few note worthy things to remember when having children in your wedding party. Many brides think that having a child that is under 5 years old is adorable. Those cutie pies usually do steal the show for that little moment as they walk down the aisle but that’s not always the case.

A general rule of thumb that I suggest to all of my clients is to
have a flower girl/ring bearer be at least 5 yrs old or older. Why you ask?

These children usually do a great job at the rehearsal when there is only the
wedding party present to rehearse. However, when the big day arrives and there
are 100-200 guests seated and watching is a whole different story.

They become scared or start to cry and will melt down before they ever go down the aisle. Try to have a parent or someone they know seated at the end of a row towards the end of the aisle and this way they can walk down the aisle and pop into that row where of where that person is.

If that doesn’t work, bribing is usually my last resort! Kids will usually do anything for that favorite piece of candy!

Some other things to remember when having a flower girl or ring bearer. Magnetic boutonnieres are so wonderful to use on smaller ring bearers. They are much safer than pin-on bouts. Also, remember that your flower is much smaller than you and will need to carry a much smaller bouquet.

Sometimes, having the flower carry a simple little basket filled with flower petals is the easiest and most cost effective.
