Ipod Vs. Musician

Let’s look at this logically, it’s the year 2013 and the cost of weddings keep going up every January. Vendors raise their rates every January and the typical couple keep thinking to themselves, we want to get married but we don’t want to spend a ton of money, especially on music.

At some point during the wedding planning process, the subject of music comes up. Whether it’s for the ceremony or for the reception, music is a key component. It would be very strange for the bride to walk down the aisle in total silence. A lot of couples these days are using the I-pod as a solution to their cost problems. Yes, you can download your favorite songs and have someone play them during your processional and recessional but will it have the same effect as a live musician? This is one area where I am a true believer in using a live musician, “artist” if you will. Yes it may cost a wee bit more but I believe its money well spent! There are no words for the effect that live music has on an event. It brings out an ambience and a beautiful power of emotions that no I-pod can touch. Just think about it: The live musician begins playing a romantic song, when the bride starts to walk down the aisle with her father and the groom sees his bride for the first time. There is not a dry eye in the place! Also, the musician can either play the song in its entirety (which I strongly encourage, it’s the most important day of your life, why do you need to rush this moment?) or he can pick a place in the song to end. It sounds much better than someone suddenly pushing the stop button. Whether it’s for the ceremony, the cocktail hour or for the reception; there are so many different kinds of musicians that one can hire for a wedding. To name a few: solo guitarist (my personal favorite), solo violinist, harpist, cellist, flutist, pianist, bag piper, steel drummer, string quartet, band, etc. If money is a large constraint, think about using a talented friend or family member that may want to play at your wedding in lieu of a wedding gift. Or maybe think of those college students studying music that need some experience. This is one area where I am confident in telling you that hiring a live musician will be the best decision you ever made for your event.
