CSA St. Charles: Rooted in Your Community and Harvested for Your Table

St. Charles County's Premier Community Supported Agriculture Program supports six local farmers while offering members prime farm fresh produce at reduced prices.

Many farmers and consumers have joined forces to increase sustainability of Missouri farms with community supported agriculture programs.

CSA's have become a great way for communities to support local farmers.  In turn the farmers provide weekly shares of prime produce at reduced pricing. The concept originated in Switzerland and Germany in the 1960's, where consumers interested in safe food and farmers seeking stable markets for their crops joined together in economic partnerships.  The concept has grown and there are an estimated 400 community supported agriculture programs in the United States.

Healthy Harvest Cooperative, St. Charles premier community supported agriculture program supports six local farmers.  The farms are located within 100 miles.  The members of the cooperative will receive 29 weeks of farm fresh produce at the average price of $ 1.13 lb.  The average share is approximately 20 lbs of produce and herbs and is estimated to feed an average family of four.

The shares are delivered weekly and can be picked up at Rick's Roadside Market on Saturdays from 8am - 12 noon.  The harvest begins on April 6, 2013 and the last pick up date of the season is October 19, 2013.
