Election Day November 6, 2012

Dad would ask me one question on our morning call if he were still with us on earth - Son did you vote today?

I've been out of pocket somewhat the past few months with work and a new granddaughter.

During the past few months I like everyone else has been inundated with television/radio/print ads seeking my vote or at least I thought that was what political ads were supposed to do.

Instead the ads I saw for the most part were disparaging the other candidate or those that supported a certain issue or issues.

My father served in the United States Navy at the age of 16 1/2 during WWII. He was in the Pacific Theatre on a submarine.

If he were alive today the first thing he would say on our morning call would be - Son did you vote? He never asked me who I voted for or why I voted on a particular issue, all he asked was - Son did you vote?

The experts (whoever they are) seemed to settle on one conclusion as a body of political scientists - our nation will be divided these next four years in spite of one candidate or the other being elected.

I choose to differ, my good neighbors in O'Fallon, my good neighbors in Saint Charles County, my good neighbors throughout Missouri and my good neighbors throughout these United States of America are going to unite and move this nation forward.

That's what we do! That's who we are! We are the few, the brave, the patriotic! We are the defenders of freedom!

Yes Dad I voted, my wife voted, my sons voted, my daughters-in-law voted! We voted because you and hundreds of thousands of brave men and women gave us the right to vote and the obligation to vote because of your service to our country! God Bless America! God Bless O'Fallon! God Bless ALL voters! Let Freedom Ring!

Well said Mike....Thanks for reminding us of the honor and pride and importance of our votes. Our fathers would have been great friends...Both went to World War 2 at early ages, Dad had just turned 17 and, like your dad, he was in the navy. Voting in the Frain Family was more than a right, it was a duty. And yes, Dad never told us who to vote for or what stands to take on issues, he just demanded that we vote and that we stay involved in our community...I would like to think that we have both made our dad's proud. God Bless America.

This is an important opportunity for all residents who want to have input on Civic Park and theRead More changes that they want to see now that Civic Hall is gone. The men and women of the city council and parks department who are making these decisions need to hear from us.

The O'Fallon Parks and Recreation Advisory board encourages all residents to come out on the 20th toRead More view the proposed plans for Civic Park & Civic Hall. A couple of great ideas will be presented keeping in mind both the history of Civic Hall/Park and the current and future recreation needs of all of the the citizens of O'Fallon. We need your input!

This will be a wonderful ceremony and a fitting tribute to the brave and honorable men and women whoRead More served their country in the Vietnam War. I look forward to seeing many O'Fallon Veteran's and residents attending the ceremony on June 22nd.

She's on vacation at the moment. When she returns she'll still be here, but in a different role.Read More Instead of just working with O'Fallon, she'll be working with multiple Patch sites across St. Louis. While she's doing other things, Tammy Duncan and I will be posting often around here. Basically Jordan is still very much involved, but she just won't be writing as many stories.
