Is There Pride in Serving in Our Military?

Proud to be an American? We have in our midst one of the most encouraging youth of our time—Amy Deardeuff!

Last night, I had the extreme privilege to be in a room with Amy Deardeuff, a  student, as she presented her winning essay in the Voice of Democracy theme entitled "Is there pride in Serving in our Military?"

I have stated several times via Patch that we have some of the greatest young people in the county among us here in O'Fallon, MO.

Amy's voice, her presentation style and the content of her essay all spoke of a young woman well beyond her years. She brought out memories of a distant past (1945) and memories of the recent past (2012) in placing the listener in the midst of those that have served, those that do serve and those that will serve for our country!

We should be proud of all of our high school youth and especially proud of those such as Amy who can so well place their thoughts on paper that we, as readers, can almost feel that we are in attendance at each event highlighted in her essay!

Thank God, thank our military and thank Amy's parents for providing the depth of love and protection that allows one such as Amy to bring out the passions and emotions that she presented last evening at the City Council meeting in O'Fallon, MO.

Were we all to surrounded by the Amy Deardeuff's of the world we would certainly be in an elevated state of pride and tradition! Thanks Amy for a job well done!
