Artist Mike Phelps’ landscapes to be featured at O’Fallon’s Cultural Arts Gallery

Fine art painter Mike Phelps enjoys painting Missouri landscapes, attending plein air (outdoor) painting events and teaching painting, too. An exhibit of Phelps’ art work will be displayed from September 13 to October 25 at O’Fallon’s Cultural Arts Gallery at the Renaud Spirit Center (RSC), 2650 Tri Sports Circle, O’Fallon, Missouri 63368.

Like many professional artists, Phelps can trace his love of art to childhood. Growing up, he took art classes wherever he lived: California, the Pacific Northwest and Australia. But he didn’t become a painter until after a career in the U.S. Air Force, followed by work as a chaplain for a hospital in western Tennessee. To de-stress, he took a water-coloring class and kept on painting. Today he is an accredited Dorothy Dent instructor with a colorful body of work on his website, www.mikephelpsfineart.com.

Phelps, who recently moved to O’Fallon, also will be on hand to demonstrate plein air painting and sell his original work outside the Renaud Spirit Center during the “RSC Family Fun Fair & Art Expo.” The event will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 28.

Artwork exhibited at O’Fallon’s Cultural Arts Gallery is available for viewing, free, during regular business hours at the RSC, which are: 5:15 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 5:15 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Fridays, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays.
