Free “Labor Day Concert” in Civic Park

Enjoy an afternoon of swing, standards and music from the movies, free, at the “Labor Day Concert” in Civic Park!

On Monday, September 2, pack some refreshments and comfortable lawn chairs and head for the Civic Park Bandstand for the annual “Labor Day Concert.” The free concert features music by the O’Fallon Jazz Band at 2 p.m., and the O’Fallon Community Concert Band at 3 p.m. Both bands are directed by Gene Garza.

O’Fallon Jazz Band selections include vocals by Steve Schumacher on “Day In - Day Out,” and “Somebody Loves Me.”  Instrumentals include “Swing is Here to Stay,” “Blues for Basie,” “Lulu’s Left Town,” Buddy Rich’s “Big Swing Face,” and Xavier Cougat’s “I Came, I Saw, I Conga’ed.”

The O’Fallon Community Concert Band’s performance includes a variety of music: “Dixieland on Parade,” “Santana in Concert,” “Trombone Tiger Rag,” “Skyfall” (from the James Bond movie), “Bulgarian Folk Dance,” and Irving Berlin’s “From Rags to Ritz.”

Directions to Civic Park - On I-70, take Exit 217 at highways K and M (Main Street). Drive north approximately one-half mile on Main Street (getting into the left lane); after crossing the railroad tracks make an immediate left (west) onto Civic Park Drive. The park is located on the right about four blocks down.
