A Defiance man was indicted Friday by a St. Charles County grand jury on drug charges, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated and multiple other charges.
Scott A. Heining 36, of the 2900 block of South Highway 94 in Defiance, faces charges of distributing a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance, resisting arrest, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, several charges of exceeding the speed limit by more than 26 mph, and several other misdemeanor and traffic charges.
St.. Charles County Drug Task Force detectives said they found 89 marijuana plants growing in Heining’s basement Sept. 4. Detectives reported that Heining had been under a task force investigation.
When detectives called him on his cell phone, Heining declined to turn himself in and said he would move back to Colorado.
Heining also faces charges for fleeing from police on Jan. 14, 2012.
A St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department deputy said he spotted Heining driving 96 mph on Highway 94 at Breeze Lane near Weldon Spring.
The deputy said Heining did not yield when the deputy attempted to pull him over, but led officers on a chase in which he sped through residential neighborhoods. When Heining’s car got stuck in ice and mud, he fled through some nearby woods, according to court documents.
Heining was arrested a short time later in a nearby business. Deputies said he had cut and bleeding hands, ice and mud on his jeans, ripped jeans and burrs on his shoelaces consistent with running through woods.
Heining has at least two other DWI arrests, according to court documents.
He was released from jail Oct. 1 after posting a $15,000 bond for resisting arrest and charges related to fleeing officers on Jan. 14, and a $30,000 bond on the charges related to growing marijuana.
