Pedestrian Hit by Car Along I-70 After Semi Slams Into Disabled Vehicle

Darius L. Walls, of O'Fallon, suffered minor injuries after he was hit by a car along Interstate 70 near the Highway K exit. The three-car crash was a result of a semi-truck hitting a car parked on the shoulder of I-70.

A car with no occupant parked on the shoulder of eastbound Interstate 70 was struck Tuesday evening, injuring a pedestrian, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At approximately 9:25 p.m., a 2000 Pontiac Firebird was left unoccupied on I-70 near the Highway K intersection in O'Fallon. The highway patrol was unable to identify the owner of the car.

A 2012 International Prostar semi-truck driven by Patrick Sheppard, 42, of Ethel, LA, was eastbound also and struck the disabled car. The Firebird then struck a pedestrian, Darius L. Walls, 23, of O'Fallon.

A third vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Joseph J. Yates, 25, of O'Fallon, attempted to avoid hitting the disabled Firebird but ending up striking Sheppard's truck.

Sheppard and Yates were not injured in the crashes. Walls was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Health Center.
