Man Attacked Son During Birthday Party Over Missing Skateboard, Officials Say

A father attacked his son during the teen’s birthday party Sunday because the son didn’t know where his father’s skateboard was located.

James J. Laurant, 35, of the 900 block of Highway Y in St. Paul, was charged Monday with third-degree domestic assault.

A St. Charles County Sheriff’s deputy said Laurant allowed his son to have a party Sunday for his 17th birthday, and during the party he became upset because he couldn’t find his skateboard.

When his son couldn’t tell him where Laurant’s skateboard was located, he grabbed his son and began pummeling the teenager, the deputy reported.

Several witnesses tried to stop the attack, but Laurant threatened them and pushed them away, according to a court document.
