Man Charged With Assaulting Woman in O'Fallon

Frederick Tate, 31, Jennings, allegedly assaulted a woman and took her cell phone so she could not contact police.

A Jennings man is charged with the assault of a woman in O'Fallon.

Frederick Tate, 31, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, domestic assault and property damage.

According to police, Tate allegedly assaulted a woman in the 200 block of Roxbury Dr. and threw her phone out of a moving car window after she agreed to take him home on Sunday.

The victim stopped at a gas station in the 1300 block of Hwy M to contact police, where the suspect allegedly told the victim he did not like police and lifted his shirt, displaying a handgun.

According to police, Tate followed the victim in the gas station and took the phone away from an employee to prevent the victim from calling 911.

When police were contacted, the suspect fled the area on foot. The victim did not suffer injuries that required medical attention.

Tate was located nearby and arrested at 8:26 am.

O’Fallon Officers and K-9 Team teamed up with the O’Fallon Police Department Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to search the area and locate the weapon within six hours.

Tate is being held on a $25,000 bond.
