Man Left Bloody Evidence Behind During Cell Phone Store Break-In, Police Say

O'Fallon Police said David Declue broke into Cricket Wireless in O'Fallon Friday and stole cash from a register.

A man left bloody evidence behind as he smashed a window at an O’Fallon cell phone store with his hand during a burglary Friday, police said.

David Declue II, 25, of the 12100 block of Parkwood Place in Maryland Heights, was charged Saturday with second-degree burglary, felony theft and first-degree property damage.

O’Fallon Police said Declue damaged the front door at Cricket Wireless, at 8623 Mexico Road, with a crowbar. He then used the crowbar to smash a front window at the store, cutting his hand and leaving blood on the glass, police said.

Declue then used the crowbar to remove a lock from a rear door at the business. Once inside, he forced open a cash register drawer with about $3,000 in cash inside. He also took receipts from the drawer.

Police said Declue caused about $1,050 in property damage to the store.

Police found a yellow crowbar covered in blood and glass also covered in blood at the scene. The crime was captured on video surveillance.

Officers found Declue nearby, wearing clothes matching the person captured on video surveillance. He also had numerous cuts on his hand and had $1,270 in cash saturated with blood, police said.

After Declue was placed in the squad car, police found bloody Cricket Wireless receipts hidden between seat cushions where he was sitting.
