O'Fallon Fire Protection District Buys New Pumper Truck

The has a new truck hitting the streets to serve the community.

The department received the 2012 Pierce Quantum pumper rescue earlier this week. O'Fallon firefighters and officers worked with representatives of the Pierce Manufacturing Company on specifications to design the custom pumper.

The new pumper will serve at , located at 600 Laura Hill Rd., just east of Highway K. The fire truck currently at Station 3 will move to Station 5, where it will replace an aging 1992 Pierce “Dash” pumper.

The $606,000 pumper is the first equipment purchase outlined in the approved by .

As O'Fallon Patch previously reported, the, was approved to allow the district to purchase new pumper trucks, upgrade the district’s five fire stations and fund needed repairs to equipment.

The National Fire Protection Association recommends vehicle equipment be replaced every 10 to 15 years. O'Fallon Fire Protection District Spokesman Scott Avery previously told Patch, some of the fire protection district’s vehicles are nearly 20 years old.

According to a news release, the O’Fallon Fire Protection District has a new 3,000 gallon water tanker fire apparatus on the drawing board, along with fire station improvements and buildings. The new tanker is expected to improve water supply issues in areas that have no municipal water supply.

Avery previously told Patch, the district’s largest trucks hold 1,000 gallons of water, and this is a problem when they receive calls to St. Paul on the northern end of town, where water is available to only about 10 percent of the area.
