O'Fallon Man Steals Friend's Pickup, Rams Truck, Deputy Says

The man chased down a pickup he was pursuing on Highway 79 and slammed into the back of it twice, according to a St. Charles County Sheriff's report.

An O’Fallon man took his friend’s 1994 Chevrolet Silverado and rammed it twice into the pickup of a man whom he was chasing.

Shane M. Walla, 20, of the 800 block of Colleen Drive in O’Fallon, was charged Friday with stealing a motor vehicle, two counts of first-degree property damage and third-degree assault.

A St. Charles County Sheriff’s deputy said that Walla’s friend blocked the roadway on Dalbow Road near Highway 79 with his Silverado so that the driver of a Ford F-150 could not pass.

Three men got out of the truck confronted the driver, who refused to get out of his pickup to fight, according to the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department report. Walla then punched the driver several times through the open window, court documents state.

The driver managed to drive around and Walla got into his friend’s pickup to chase the Ford F-150, leaving the Silverado’s owner stranded in a rural area.

Walla caught up with the F-150 on Highway 79 and rammed it twice. The second impact causing the driver to lose control of the Ford pickup, and it spun around.

Damage to the Silverado totaled $5,675, while damage to the Ford F-150 totaled $3,721, according to the report.

The driver told deputies he did not know what started the incident. He was with his girlfriend at Burn-Out Bridge on Dalbow Road when they met the three men. The driver said he was acquainted with Walla and the other two men, and there was no problem until the couple decided to leave the area.

Bail was set at $25,000 for Walla.

Walla also faces a felony theft charge from a Feb. 13 incident.
