O'Fallon Police Add Prescription Drug Take Back Drop Box

The service is available in the lobby of the police station on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The O’Fallon Police Department now offers a prescription drug take back drop box for residents.

The drop-box was set up in the police station lobby on Monday. O'Fallon Police say the service will provide a safe way to discard old or unused medications to keep them from being abused.

"There's not a safe alternate solution for disposing unused and expired medication," said Sgt. Robert Kendall, of the O'Fallon Police Department. "We'd rather do this than have them fall into the wrong hands and have someone abuse them, or kids selling them at school."

Residents are encouraged to bring in any old medications from a pharmacy or over the counter, including pills and liquids. The service is available in the lobby of the police station on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

No syringes, glass, biohazard or radio active materials will be accepted. Kendall said the drugs will be incinerated.

The new drop box is intended to handle small quantities of medications for individuals and not businesses. Kendall said residents who have large amounts of unused medications are still asked to bring them to the drug take back events.

O’Fallon Police will continue to partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) twice a year for Prescription Drug Take Back Events.

O'Fallon Patch previously reported, the first drug take-back hosted by O’Fallon in January 2009 collected over 20,000 pills. Kendall said this was the first event in St. Charles County, and it was a huge success.

The next Drug Take Back Event is scheduled for April 28 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the O’Fallon Police Department.

Residents with questions about what to drop off can call Sgt. Robert Kendall at 636-379-5680.
