A St. Charles man is held on multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a home and sexually assaulting an O'Fallon woman.

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued charges on James M. Helderle, 21 for Robbery 1st Degree, Burglary 1st Degree, Forcible Sodomy-Deviant Sexual Intercourse by Forcible Compulsion, Felonious Restraint and Armed Criminal Action on Wednesday.

I am pleased the O' Fallon Police did a good job and caught the perpetrator. We must really crack down hard on violence against women! A stiff sentence as recommended by the court will be a strong deterrent to others who would contemplate a similar evil deed.

Jordan, What a great article! Please keep up the good work. I am proud of you. I remember this incident well. The perpetrator was naked in the cold weather when arrested. Please publicize the sentencing as much as you can. It is very important to send a clear public message that rape and violence against women will not be tolerated and will be severely punished. I enquired of the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence and learned that St. Charles County, like St. Louis County, has dedicated law enforcement and prosecution units and domestic violence dockets in place due to VAWA. I also learned from MCADSV that on the last day of the legislative session the Missouri General Assembly passed the best rape law improvement in decades! Although the improvement would have little impact on this case the new law takes emphasis away from proving force used to accomplish rape and focuses on the simple issue of consent. This is a great victory for women because few rapes involve physical force. Women are taken advantage of by men they know who wield some sort of positional authority or power over their victims. Technical language in the domestic violence law was passed as well. I must get going on my next blog post. I have so many suggestions for women and warnings for men I must share.
