An O’Fallon woman woke to find a man standing over her bed early Sunday morning. Another person chased the man out of the house, but the intruder lost his shoe.
O’Fallon Police said Jacob Lee Roberts, 18, of the 500 block of St. Matthew Avenue in O’Fallon, broke into a neighbor’s home in the 400 block of St. Matthew.
The woman said she recognized Roberts as a neighbor who had tapped on her bedroom window earlier and asked her to hang out.
Police said he pried a screen off a window with a butter knife, and entered through the window. He stole a radio, police said.
Police said Roberts confessed that, as the woman was sleeping, he touched her through her clothing for sexual gratification.
Police recovered a shoe in Roberts’ home that matched the one left in the neighbor’s house. There also was a footprint near the entry point that matched the shoe style, police said. The butter knife also was identified as having come from his house, according to the police report.
Roberts was charged Monday with first-degree burglary, felony stealing and first-degree sexual misconduct.
Bail was set at $75,000.
