An O’Fallon man who said he has HIV was charged with two felonies on Monday after biting a police officer.
The St. Charles County Prosecutor’s Office charged Willie E. Bishop, 20, of the 900 Block of Green Briar Hills Drive, with one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest and two felonies—assault of a law enforcement officer and reckless risk of infection of another with HIV.
said Bishop fled his home when an officer attempted to arrest him for outstanding warrants on Monday.
The police officer caught Bishop, who then punched the officer in the eye and bit him on the back, causing a break in the skin. Bishop ran back into his home, but was later arrested without further incident.
Police said an investigation revealed Bishop has HIV. The police officer was treated for the injuries from the incident and released from the hospital.
Bishop is being held at the St. Charles County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
