One Killed After O'Fallon Man Leads Police Chase

Police say the chase began after a call regarding a 29-year-old O'Fallon man attempting to set his step-father on fire.

A Caruthersville police officer is dead after an early morning police chase beginning in O'Fallon. 

say they received a call around 9:30 p.m. on Monday to the 2000 block of Williamstown Drive, where a 29-year-old man reportedly set a fire in the garage and attempted to set his step-father on fire. 

The suspect lead police on a chase that ended in Caruthersville when he crashed. According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Officer Evan Burns, 28, was killed in the collision.

O'Fallon Police say the suspect was taken into custody and the department will purse charges with the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. 

According to KSDK News Channel 5, the suspect was wanted on charges of arson, first degree assault and car theft.
