City Council Accepts Road Board Funding for Two Major Reconstruction Projects

The O'Fallon City Council recently approved the use of St. Charles County Road Board funds for two major road projects in O'Fallon: slab replacement on Laura Hill and intersection improvements for Hwy. N and Sommers Road.

Pavement on Laura Hill between Highway K and the area near the fire station has been deteriorating, city staff reported. The $143,000 project will include slab removal and replacement, and the addition of a sidewalk along the south side to connect gaps in the existing sidewalk.

The city's portion of the project budget is $28,600. The remaining $114,400 will be provided by the St. Charles County Road Board's Transportation Sales Tax (TST) funds.

Sommers Road and Highway N Intersection Improvements

With completion of the new Wentzville Liberty High School in the fall, the city is anticipating an increase in traffic at the Sommers Road/Hwy. N intersection.

Work on the intersection—including lane improvements, signal upgrades and pedestrian improvements—will improve overall traffic flow and help ease congestion.

Of the total project cost, estimated at $955,000, the City of O'Fallon will be responsible for $9,550.

The Wentzville School District will be paying $95,500 of the project's costs, and the St. Charles County Road Board will provide $85,950. The remainder of this project is receiving federal funds totaling $764,000.

In a separate action, the city council selected Howard R. Green as the designer for the Sommers Road project, pending approval by the Missouri Department of Transportation. MoDOT monitors the federal funding for this project.

Both the Bryan Road and Mexico Road Intersection Improvement projects were designed by H. R. Green, and city staff recommended Green as being the most qualified designer for the Sommers Road project.

Since all of the funding sources are reimbursements, the City will need to fully fund the project and seek reimbursement as progress is made.
