In the upcoming municipal election, Wards 4 and 5 each have one three-year seat open on O'Fallon City Council. The terms of Bob Howell (Ward 4) and Mike Pheney (Ward 5) end in April. Both filed for re-election and are running unopposed.
O'Fallon Patch sent each of the city council candidates the same questionnaire. Candidates submitted answers by email.
This week, we hear from Howell and Pheney.
Ward 4 Candidate Bob Howell
Where do you live? 1032 Delmar Dr. O'Fallon
What is your current job/position?
I am a 27 yr. member of plumbers and pipefitters local union # 562.
Why are you running for City Council?
I am running for city council to continue this exciting journey of public service that I was elected for in 2009 and have enjoyed performing for numerous years prior. There is nothing more rewarding than leading by example to help my own children see how they too can make a difference in other peoples lives for the better. The satisfaction I receive by helping out an elderly person, veteran, business owner, or any other citizen of this great city is such a wonderful feeling. Putting a smile on their face for something I may have accomplished for them is truely priceless.
Relevant Experience: Chairman of the Bryan Valley Homeowners Association from 1999 to the present. Planning and Zoning Commisioner for the City of O'Fallon from 2002 to 2009.bCouncilman for the City of O'Fallon Ward 4 from 2009 to the present.
What do think you can you bring to this position?
I will bring a continued understanding of how the city operates, even under these strenuous times. I will also continue to keep an eye out for any thing I see as wasteful spending. I will do my best to keep this city one of the best and safest places to live and raise a family. I will always bring an open mind to my fellow councilmen or councilwomen with the citizens best interest, when discussing issues.
Please tell us about one goal you have for this position:
One goal I have for this position is to continue to push forward on the city's infrastructure improvements. Road and sidewalk repairs and replacements have been, and always will be one of my main priorities for the city, along with the safety of our families. It has been a pleasure working with the residents in Ward 4 and the entire city for that matter these last two-years and I look forward to continuing my assistance for the next three.
