O'Fallon Seeks Applications For New Ward 5 Council Member

Eligible candidates should submit applications at City Hall by Dec. 9.

O'Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy is accepting applications to fill a vacancy in Ward 5 on the City Council. 

O'Fallon Patch previously reported, Ward 5 City Councilman Mark Perkins at the Nov. 17 council meeting. Perkins served six terms on the council and his resignation is effective Dec. 31. 

According to the city charter, when a vacancy occurs on the council, the position shall be filled by a selection of the mayor. The city council may also adopt procedures to fill vacancies.

O'Fallon Director of Public Relations Tom Drabelle said Hennessy is expected to appoint a temporary replacement to fill Perkin’s seat beginning in January 2012. The selected applicant will fill the position until the April 2013 city election. There are no positions on the council up for re-election in April 2012.

  • Must be a registered voter of the city 
  • Must be a resident of the ward they're filing for at least one year prior to selection
  • Must be 21-years-old by date of selection
